My First Time Watching the Apple Keynote

My First Time Watching the Apple Keynote

I made a virtual MacBook and I got an iPhone. The next stop on my journey was to listen to the Apple keynote.

I’m not sure how or why, but Apple’s Keynote appeared in my YouTube history page. So I decided to watch it for the first time in my life. Of course, I had heard of it, but I had never actually watched the whole thing before.

As the conference name implies, the events are mostly for developers, the people who are going to create new apps for Apple computers, phones and tablets. The keynote speech is the big public event, the one that gets the most media coverage and what the average person is likely to watch. This is when the CEO announces the new products and apps, changes to current products and apps, and what phone gets retired.

The first WWDC was held back in 1987. Normally, tickets for this conference are $1559 per person and limited to Apple Developer program members. This year, because of COVID, the entire conference was online. You can watch the keynote on YouTube and go to the Apple Developer website to see the full recap of events.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I had the impression that it would be one long speech from Tim Cook. But I was wrong; Tim Cook’s speech was only the first part. (The Racial Equity and Justice Initiative and pledge to start an entrepreneur camp for Black developers was a nice touch, too.)

After the opening speech, there was a dizzying array of speakers serving up a dizzying amount of offerings. There were updates to absolutely everything, from iPhones, to iPads, to Apple Watches. I have to admit I did like the updates to iPad the most. Combine Scribble and color accuracy on something the size of a small drawing pad, and you’ve got something that appeals to anyone’s artistic side.

And that is something that can’t be denied: Apple is a genius at design. Everything just looks so good. Bright and colorful, sleek and minimalist, or so adorable like the dozens of memojis with little MacBooks.

After I watched the keynote, I realized why Apple is one of the most loved brands in the world. Did I mention that they also have a presentation app called Keynote?
